I am sure many, if not all of us, have a friend or person in our lives who is going through some very visible trial or hardship. Many struggles are very obvious and apparent for the outside world to see. It is often easy for us to reach out and want to help these people who are going through difficult times.
However, there are also countless people who are undergoing very quiet and private, yet just as real trials. Your friend who appears to have it all together may simply be covering their pain with a smile.
When we are aware of the hardships that the people around us are struggling with, we will likely be quick to jump up and help. But are we as quick to serve and care for the one who’s trials are not as visible? Are we kind to those who’s lives appear to be perfect, or do we just assume that they are fine?
I challenge you to reach out to those who carry a constant smile and who’s struggles and hardships are less than visible. Just because you can’t see them does not mean they aren’t there. Everyone is going through some sort or trial whether you know about it or not, and everyone deserves to feel loved and cared for.
While they might not be the “squeaky wheel” with difficulties loud and obvious, the quiet sufferers still need “oil”.
Pray for opportunities to reach out to and serve those who you might not on your own recognize need your help. God is aware of each of us. He knows our pains. He knows what we stand in need of. He can and will use you to lighten the burdens of others. Look for opportunities to help those who might not be the obvious person in need.
When have you been quietly suffering and had another lighten your burden?
