WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?

“I don’t want my thoughts to die with me. I want to have done something.
I want my life to have meaning.” - Temple Grandin
What is your dream? What kind of influence do you want to have on this world? We have some exciting news and we can’t wait to share it with you! Be sure to read to the very bottom of this post to find out our theme for the next issue of BE WISE Magazine and how YOU can be featured!
Are you just marking time waiting for your life to happen? Do you have goals and dreams that you keep putting off for later? Are you waiting for certain opportunities or experiences to happen before choosing to be happy?
For the longest time I had the attitude of, “When ______ happens, then I will be happy.” I had goals and dreams that I kept putting off until “tomorrow”.  I was waiting for my life to happen rather than making it happen.
I always knew I wanted to make a difference, I just didn’t know how. There were many people and companies that inspired me and I always admired their drive and motivation to influence the world in a positive way.
I created BE WISE Magazine because I had a dream to make a positive difference in the world. I wanted to redefine what it means to be truly beautiful and discover ways to feel of and understand our own infinite worth. (Read more about that here and here.)
Occasionally I have become frustrated that I am not seeing the results I would like to see and I wonder if I am even making a difference in my endeavors with BE WISE.
Although I thought I [mostly] had grown out of it, I still often find myself thinking, “When ______ happens, then I will be happy.” Or in the case of BE WISE Magazine, “When I reach _____ many followers, then I have been successful.” or even, “When I am as popular as ______ blogger, then I have reached true success.”
Instead of focusing on my own personal journey, I have been focusing on the “success” of others. Not only that, I have been determining what “success” is by the standards of the world.  I have been caught up in comparing myself (and my number of “followers”) to others, often feeling that my impact on the world could never be comparable to theirs.
As strange as it sounds, that’s where I was right...
My journey and my impact will never be comparable to anyone else’s. It is my own. It will have different twists and turns that are unique for my own personal growth. I will experience various obstacles that are necessary for my journey that might not be necessary for somebody else’s.  I might not have as many (or even a small percentage) of the followers that others might have, and guess what... that is OKAY. If all I have done is touched one life, then that my friends, is success.
My dream was to create a magazine that would uplift and inspire. One that would fight against societies expectations of beauty and self-worth. My goal was to lift others up and help them to realize their potential. What I never anticipated was how much BE WISE would help me...
For nearly three years I have been working on either BE WISE The Blog or BE WISE Magazine. That is three years that I have thoroughly researched the topic of self-worth and three years that I have sought out uplifting and positive influences to inspire me with the creation of BE WISE. During that time I have learned and grown more than I could have imagined. Not only have I tried to uplift others, but I have personally be uplifted. I have realized my own worth and potential. I have learned to be more confident and comfortable in my own skin. What I gained was not what I hoped to gain... it was actually much more. My success did not come in the form I had anticipated, but nonetheless, it was still a success.
I originally sought out to inspire and motivate others to become the best versions of themselves and in the process I was the one who was changed. Throughout the creation of BE WISE I have become more strong, confident, and spiritually in tune. I have grown closer to my Heavenly Father and felt of His love for me. I am consistently reminded of my purpose and the importance of “Being Wise”.
Yes, my success story is not very conventional. It is not the kind of success that most people strive for or even the kind that I was hoping to find. However, it is still success. I created a movement that, if it did nothing else, it moved me. It inspired me to create. It motivated me to dream. It forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and become someone. I may not have a million followers. I will likely never be well known. But I fought for my dream. I quit waiting for my life to happen and instead I made it happen.
