WORTH EMULATING 11: OBEDIENCE

Today I came across a scripture I have read countless times but this time it meant something completely different to me... "And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise; yea, even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands." (1 Nephi 2:20)
Now I know this isn't a new concept; if you keep the commandments and are obedient, you will be blessed. But this time as I read this scripture it brought a whole new meaning. We are taught to liken and apply the scriptures to our own lives. Without getting too personal, there are a few things in my life that I am currently going through. I don't say struggling because they are not necessarily struggles, but rather situations that I need the guidance of my Heavenly Father to get me through.
As a single, 24-year-old girl living in Utah it can at times be frustrating that I haven't yet found "the one".  Anyone in my same situation can attest to that. For awhile I allowed myself to become discouraged that things weren't going according to my plan. Overtime I have come to realize that getting married really isn't the ultimate goal. While yes, it is something I plan to accomplish, it is not the sole reason for my existence.
I know that the Lord has a plan for me. As I read this scripture I was reminded of that. My purpose is simply to come to Earth and be perfected through Him. If I keep the commandments and am obedient  I will prosper (be blessed) and will be led to a land of promise (whatever blessings I might stand in need of). If I am patient I will receive all the blessings God is preparing for me, blessings that are "choice above all" others. As silly as it might sound, I truly believe that there is someone being prepared for me just as I am being prepared for them. My responsibility is to be obedient and wait patiently as the Lord leads me to all He has in store for me. Not just in finding "the one" but in all things.
